Two-thirds of the jobs in sustainability require the ability to collect, analyze, and report sustainability data. Many of those jobs prefer a master’s degree or require a master’s for advancement.

The design of this MS degree is based on extensive research on job market trends in sustainable business. More than half a million professionals in LinkedIn have the word sustainability in their profile. There continues to be a steady growth of jobs requiring data collections, data analysis, and reporting of environmental and energy efforts in compliance with GRI, and SASB guidelines and standards.

Dr. Herriott is the provost of MUM, where he also serves as Professor of Business Administration and is the former Dean of the College of Business Administration. He received his PhD in management science and engineering at Stanford University. He served on the business faculties at the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Iowa as an assistant professor for six years before joining MUM in 1990. His expertise is the application of quantitative methods to business strategy with a special focus on sustainability. He teaches economics, finance, operations management, strategic management, and sustainable business. He is the author of a dozen scientific papers on economics, organization, and business strategy. His textbooks include Feasibility Analysis for Sustainable Technologies (Business Expert Press, 2015) and Metrics for Sustainable Business: Measures and Standards for the Assessment of Organizations (Routledge, 2016).

Ayako Huang, MPA, PhD

Ayako Huang is the director of the MBA in Sustainable Business. Having a Master of Public Administration degree, she teaches the course on LEED for Cities and Communities. Her project work focuses on governmental organizations that are seeking to improve their sustainability. Her scholarly interest is in organizational behavior and strategic management. She is a member of the OBTS Teaching Society for Management Educators, is a member of the Academy of Management. She has made numerous presentations at professional conferences.

Stuart is Adjunct Professor of Sustainable Business. He has played an active role in the Green Private Investment sector of the Sustainable, Responsible and positive Impact (SRI) movement since 2000. From 2010 – 2014, he served on the drafting committee of the Transforming Finance Group, founded by Hazel Henderson, which is an initiative to advance deeper integration of the biomimetic principles underlying life with the economic models and tools used for investment decision making. He serves on the Research Advisory Board of Ethical Markets Media in the area of social venture capital and sustainable community development. Stuart is co-author of Imagining Philanthropy for Life: A Whole System Strategy to Unleash True Love for Humankind (2017).

Dennis Heaton earned his EdD in educational leadership and teaches Strategic Management for Sustainable Business. His areas of research interest include consciousness, holistic health, peak performance, and higher stages of human development and their implications for leadership. He is Dean of the College of Business Administration at MUM as well as Professor of Management. He has been directing PhD students’ research in areas of socially and environmentally responsible business, including the effects of green buildings on human resources, consumer attitudes toward genetically modified food, moral development and ethical decision-making in accountants, and the role of human resource management in implementing sustainability.

Ye (Lin) Shi, MBA, CMA

Ye Shi is Assistant Professor of Accounting. She teaches courses in managerial accounting, including preparation for the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) exam. In 2017, Ye Shi won the Lybrand Gold Medal Award from the Institute for Management Accounting for the best article published in their journal Strategic Finance. The award-winning article (co-authored with Andrew Bargerstock of MUM) was titled, Are We Leaning Away from Standard Costing? Shi and Bargerstock also co-authored a management accounting ethics paper that was named IMA’s 2014 Carl Menconi Award: Best Case Study in Business Ethics (title: Watson Water Technologies). She is also a two-time national IMA award winner for Lean Accounting accomplishments (2013, 2016).

Phillip Nicholas is a CPA with thirteen years experience as a Senior Financial Analyst and Senior Accountant in the commercial and governmental military industry. He specializes in project planning, implementation of ERP systems, internal controls, auditing, and measurement & reporting. He is a 2019 graduate of the MBA in Sustainable Business at MUM. His area of focus and expertise is in integrative reporting, establishing organizational sustainability metrics, and development of models to bridge the gap between financial, environmental, and social reporting. His scholarly study includes internal controls for reliable reporting, sustainability standards, principles, metrics, and frameworks, and stages of evolutionary organizations. He teaches courses in auditing with the GRI and SASB Standards and in enterprise resource planning using the SAP-SPM module (Sustainability Performance Management).

Dallas Terry is Sustainability Program Manager in the real estate practice of Cushman & Wakefield in San Franciso. He has an MBA degree from Maharishi University of Management and is LEED AP certified in Building Design and Construction. His deep interests lie in the ideas, projects and businesses that entail innovative, intelligent and collaborative designs that improve the bottom line and make a meaningful impact on improving the status quo. His specialties include program management, project management, strategic business planning, feasibility studies, energy efficiency, water conservation, integrated waste management renewable energy, financial modeling, business development, risk assessments, carbon reporting, and stakeholder engagement.
